Giving

This is where you come in.

The wholesomeness of traditional farmers, revolutionary research and knowledge from accomplished scientists, and a thriving source of islet cells: Together, they could be the cure for diabetes, providing an opportunity for today’s patients to be freed from daily management, perpetual vigilance, and constant worry. This is the growth of a whole new life for diabetics.

But there’s one thing missing. And that’s you, and your help. You may not have a Ph.D. or a curly tail, but your role in finding a cure for diabetes is equally important.

Although Dr. Hering has secured, and is seeking, grants for the development of islet transplantation technology, including studies of enhanced immune tolerance, animal resources development, the focus of the Spring Point Project, is not under the purview of the current funding mechanisms. And if we want this cure to advance, we need to anticipate success.

That means our researchers need to work with Abraham and his offspring to generate a line of pigs with a superior genetic makeup in order to produce a large, thriving supply of islet cells which are, compared to human islet cells, significantly less prone to rejection by recipients.

While our researchers focus on safe and effective immunosuppression to prevent pig islet xenotransplant rejection, the Spring Point Project will focus on the construction and operation of the biosecure pig facilities. Both components are of the utmost importance as we work toward a cure.
